Reasons to Learn Martial Arts at Florian Martial Arts Center
Some of the most significant reasons to learn martial arts include the following:
Martial arts helps improve students’ confidence as their self-image and performance improves over time.
You achieve a full-body workout while building muscle and improving mobility.
Martial arts helps increase your self-defense skills if there is ever a true threat to your safety.
Engaging in stretching, grappling, and striking techniques can enhance your overall flexibility.
Martial arts heightens your body awareness, coordination, and mind-body connection.
When practicing martial arts, your mind is engaged on the task at hand, fostering self-discipline.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is an art centered around grappling and submission holds. Students acquire the skill of overcoming a stronger opponent by using leverage, joint locks and chokeholds, without relying on forceful strikes. The premise of BJJ is that most of the advantage of a larger, stronger opponent comes from superior reach and more powerful strikes, both of which are negated when grappling on the ground. In our BJJ practice, students wear gis, and we employ a belt system to encourage growth and acknowledge expertise.
Striking
Our center has one of the most comprehensive striking programs in the area. We practice Muay Thai, conventional boxing and kickboxing. We begin students with a warm-up that is tailored to striking and transition into training specific movements, defenses, and combinations. There is usually controlled sparring in the second half of the class.
